The Great Bustard Project

Things you find out when working on an assignment: the great bustard (Otis tarda) is the heaviest flying animal alive today. It’s been extinct in the UK for around 180 years, but there’s a project to reintroduce it on Salisbury Plain. are the ones that know all about it, and I particularly like the pictures of the puppet they use to feed the chicks.

Lots of opportunities over there to sponsor different parts of the project, from a the rescue of single egg to the cost of feeding a group of birds for a whole year. Or you can buy stuff, read more or book to visit the project site.

Get over there and learn about these remarkable birds for yourselves.
